Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani has shared his thoughts ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 President’s Cup clash against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, offering insights into the team’s early preparations and philosophical approach.
In an interview with the club’s media, Dramani revealed that the team resumed training on June 23 and has since been focused on assessing the squad and implementing a new identity for the Phobians.
“We resumed the 23rd, and so we’ve just been working to understand the team and what we have. It’s very good to have a moment of this kind and to come up with the right maiden squad to showcase the new Hearts of Oak outlook,” he said.
While aware of the magnitude of facing Asante Kotoko, Dramani explained that he deliberately avoids overhyping the rivalry to his players. Instead, his focus has been on team development and tactical growth.
“I have not spoken to the players about the name of the team [Kotoko]. I’ve just been preparing them with regards to our expectations on the day,” he said.
“Every player knows the importance and relevance of these games. So you need not be told to add pressure. I just tell them how we are developing our style, game model, philosophy, and culture.”
Dramani acknowledged the unusual timing of the game, as it falls during a period that would typically be reserved for rest or early preseason preparations. He emphasized that careful load management will be key to avoid injuries ahead of the new season.
“This period, they should have been recuperating or getting ready to transition from rest to preseason. But here we are, preparing for a high-profile game in the off-season. It’s not easy,” he explained.
“We try to manage the loads even in the game so players don’t get overworked and risk injury.”
Despite the challenges, Dramani called on the Hearts of Oak faithful to fill the stadium and show support for what he believes is the beginning of something promising.
“The team loves the fans, and they know we want to begin showing that the Phobia spirit is back. They should come, fill the stadium, and keep cheering — irrespective of what is happening.”
The 2025 President’s Cup promises not just a fierce football battle but also a symbolic start to Hearts of Oak’s rebuilding journey under Didi Dramani.
