Black Galaxies head coach Kassim Mingle has clarified why Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was excluded from his latest squad ahead of next Tuesday’s friendly against South Africa.
Speaking to Sporty FM, the former Nations FC boss said the decision was deliberate, stressing that Asare has already proven himself beyond the CHAN-level setup.
“There’s no reason to keep calling Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a spot in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level,” Mingle explained. “It doesn’t make sense to invite him to the Galaxies again just to justify himself.”
Mingle added that the omission is meant to give other local goalkeepers the opportunity to gain exposure and demonstrate their abilities on the national stage.
He has named a 20-man home-based Black Stars squad—made up entirely of local players—for the friendly in South Africa, as Ghana prepares to field its CHAN team for the international assignment.
