The local football governing body – GFA on Monday confirmed the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as a successor to Coach Otto Addo who was dismissed in March. Carlos who previously managed Manchester United FC and Real Madrid FC comes in with huge experience managing at the World Cup stage.
The Portuguese trainer is appointed to lead Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after which gets his job evaluated.
Several pundits and analysis has spoken high of his experience and acknowledged the fact that, he can guide the Black Stars to a successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
However, the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has warned Ghanaians of the 73-year old gaffer insisting he is not a magician to turn the abysmal performance and low quality Ghana side to a winning and better team at the World Cup.
Highlighting the fact that, all football lovers should be careful with praises and criticism of the manager.
“Carlos Queiroz is the most talked about person now. Football lovers are discussing him, but let’s be careful with our criticism. Coaches are not magicians and Carlos is no exception”.
Carlos led South Africa, Portugal and Iran to the Mundial in 2002, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 respectively.
He has also held coaching roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear during the World Cup.
Coach Queiroz begins work immediately to prepare the Black Stars for the tournament, which kicks off in the Summer.
