The former WAFA SC graduate Augustine Boakye has been named in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, following his exploit with French outfit Saint Etienne.
The Ghanaian midfielder earned his first call-up to the senior national team last week in a friendly fixture involving Mexico but could not join the team. He stayed with Saint Etienne who were scheduled for a crucial promotion playoffs in the French Ligue 2.
Boakye, who has been an influential figure for the club, earned admiration from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz and shortlisted in their 28-man squad for their friendly against Wales national men’s team on June 02, 2026.
Several other players who were on the periphery of the squad have been included with notable names like Thomas Partey, Inaki Williams, Alidu Seidu, Antoine Semenyo, Fatawu Issahaku, Jerome Opoku, Gideon Mensah, Alexander Djiku amongst others.
