Former Ghanaian international David Accam believe Ghana’s head coach Carlos Queiroz is a topnotch trainer with huge experience managing club football and national teams but will need more than that to steer the Black Stars to a better campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese tactician was appointed in April on a short-term deal, replacing Otto Addo who got sacked due to poor performance. Carlos is expected to lead Ghana into the tournament in North America and try to better their performance of 2018 and 2022, where they failed to qualify from group phase.
For David Accam, who played to the highest level strongly believe Carlos arrival is brilliantly but would have to be firm and authoritative in selecting his team for matches.
Speaking in an interview with Graphic Sports, Accam expressed confidence in the coach’s credentials while stressing the need for strong leadership.
“Carlos Queiroz is a big coach. He has coached top teams and countries, so I do not think this challenge is too big for him,” Accam said.
“He has the experience. What he needs to do is be firm, stamp his authority on the team and bring something different from what we have seen before.
“Hopefully, he can build a solid team that plays as one and fights to win for the country,” he added.
Ghana, is set for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States and will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field. They will then face England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium before concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will also play a final warm-up match against Jamaica on June 10 as part of their preparation for the Mundial.
