Amsterdam born Ghana goalkeeper Paul Reverson has admitted missing out on Ghana’s final World Cup squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup hurt despite being young.

The young shot-stopper says he would have loved to be part of Ghana’s squad for the Mundial but believes the opportunity came a little too soon in his career.

The Ajax goalkeeper secured his maiden call up and trained with the Black Stars during their preparation for the global showpiece, however failed to break into the final 26-man squad for the tournament.

Paul, 20, still remains focus on his development and determined to achieve the world cup height at the right time.

Speaking about missing out on the World Cup squad on TV3 Warmplus show, Reverson acknowledged his disappointment but insisted he understands the timing of his development.

“I wish I was in the Black Stars team for the World Cup but now is not the time. I’m still very young.”

Ghana is houses in Group L with European powerhouse England, Croatia and Panama. While Ghana faces a difficult challenge against some of the world’s best teams, Reverson believes the Black Stars have what it takes to surprise many observers.

“I think Ghana can reach the semi-finals and even further.”

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Reverson was eligible to represent both Ghana and the Netherlands due to his dual nationality. The talented shot-stopper came through the youth systems of Dutch clubs Zeeburgia and AFC before joining Ajax Amsterdam, where he currently plays for Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie.

His impressive performances earned him a maiden Black Stars call-up for Ghana’s international friendly against Mexico in May, marking another significant step in his international journey.

The 20-year old had the option of representing the Netherlands internationally, but chose to commit his future to Ghana. He made his debut for Ghana’s U-20 side in 2025 and quickly caught the attention of the senior national team setup.
