Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has downplayed concerns over Ghana’s limited preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his team must make the most of the circumstances they have been given.
The Portuguese tactician has overseen just one friendly match, a 1-1 draw against Wales, before Ghana’s opening Group L fixture against Panama on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the tournament opener, Queiroz stressed that while more preparation time would have been ideal, his focus remains on maximizing every available opportunity with the squad.
“Life is simple for us in terms of preparation: one training session is better than none, two is better than one, and three is better than two. But with just one game, you have to make the best of the situation.”
The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach has repeatedly highlighted the challenges of assembling an international squad, particularly with players arriving from different clubs and leagues across the world.
Despite the limited preparation time, Queiroz expressed satisfaction with what he has seen from his players, praising their commitment and willingness to quickly adapt to his tactical instructions.
Ghana arrived in Toronto on Monday and will continue final preparations before facing Panama in a match that could prove crucial to their hopes of advancing from a group that also includes England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will be seeking a positive start to their World Cup campaign as Queiroz aims to guide Ghana beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
Kickoff set for 23:00 GMT.
