Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo says the Ghana squad is determined to secure victory against Panama and dedicate the result to Thomas Partey, who is unavailable for the team’s opening 2026 FIFA World Cup match.
Partey was ruled out of the game after losing his appeal against Canada’s decision to deny him entry into the country, forcing the midfielder to miss Ghana’s tournament opener.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Sibo admitted the squad is disappointed by Partey’s absence but insisted the players are motivated to fight for their teammate.
“We have to make sure we win the game for Thomas Partey and make him happy. It hurts that we are playing our first game, and he’s not with us. We are giving him our word,” Sibo told 3Sports.
The midfielder emphasized that the team remains united and focused despite the setback, with players eager to begin their World Cup campaign on a positive note.
Ghana faces Panama on Wednesday in Toronto, with the Black Stars hoping to make a strong start and honor their promise to their absent teammate.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 PM Ghana time.
