Black Stars deputy captain, Thomas Partey, says he is ready to return to action against England after missing Ghana’s opening World Cup match against Panama.
Partey was unavailable for the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Panama but is now back with the squad ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Group L showdown with the Three Lions.
Speaking to reporters, the former Arsenal midfielder admitted it was frustrating to miss the opener but stressed that some situations are beyond a player’s control.
“Well, I think it’s part of football. Things happen in football that you cannot control. So, for me, now I feel okay and I’m ready to play.”
The 32-year-old could be set for a fascinating midfield battle against England star Declan Rice, his former teammate at Arsenal.
When asked about facing Rice, Partey acknowledged the quality in the England side and said he was looking forward to the challenge.
“Yeah, I know it’s not going to be easy. Very good players, and I’m happy to really play against them.”
Partey’s return would be a major boost for head coach Carlos Queiroz as Ghana seek a positive result against England.
The Black Stars and the Three Lions both head into the Foxborough clash on three points, with the winner taking a significant step towards qualification for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
