Ghana’s head coach Carlos Queiroz believe the 2026 FIFA World Cup is about starting, after suffering defeat to Croatia on Saturday night.
The Black Stars who had secured qualification to the round of 32 even before taking on Croatia in Group L decisive encounter, bowed to a 2-1 defeat in Philadelphia with debutamt Derrick Luckassen scoring the consolation goal.
The four-time Africa Champions attained 4 points to finish 3rd in Group L that had England, Croatia and Panama.
Following defeat to Croatia, Carlos Queiroz questioned the new World Cup format of 48 teams but says the real tournament is about starting thus from round of 32.
“I have just told my players that the real world championship starts in the next round”
“The group stage is the warming-up and qualification for the next round is like a credit card but now you have to start paying. Everything goes to the winner, every game is drama, nobody can hide. That starts next game,” he said.
Ghana who made their fifth appearance at the global showpiece will battle Columbia for the round of 16 ticket for finishing third in his Group. They have sight set on equalling their record made at the Mundial in 2010, by reaching the quarterfinals.
