Medeama Sporting Club has set its sights on making history in the CAF Champions League next season, according to the club’s Communications Director, Benjamin Willie Graham.
The Ghanaian giants are set to face Congolese powerhouse TP Mazembe in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with qualification seen as a major opportunity for the players to make their mark on the continental stage.
Should Medeama successfully overcome TP Mazembe, they will face either Club Africain of Tunisia or Djoliba AC of Mali in the next round.
Speaking to Mothers 102.7FM and Mothers TV, Benjamin Willie Graham revealed that Medeama’s primary objective is to advance to the group stage while using the challenging tie against TP Mazembe as motivation for the squad.
“Our target is to get to the group stage. Meeting TP Mazembe will motivate the boys and uplift their preparations. It will make them understand that they have to work hard and make history,” Willie Graham said.
He believes the tie presents a unique opportunity for several Medeama players, many of whom are yet to experience the CAF Champions League at this level.
“It is about history-making because most of our players haven’t played in this competition before. It is an opportunity for them to make history, and they are willing to go out there,” he added.
The Communications Director acknowledged the strength and experience of TP Mazembe but insisted that Medeama are ready for the challenge.
“At least, their names will be in the history books if they beat TP Mazembe. We know that we are going to face a very tough fight, and we are ready for the competition,” he stated.
Medeama will therefore enter the tie with the ambition of not only progressing to the next round but also creating a memorable chapter in the club’s continental history.
