Former Hearts of Oak technical director Renne Hiddink believes the club must make significant changes to its football administration if it is to return to the top of Ghanaian football.
Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, Hiddink expressed concern over the club’s recent lack of major success, noting that Hearts of Oak have struggled to add titles to their trophy cabinet in recent years.
The former technical director revealed that he attempted to implement changes during his time at the club but acknowledged that transforming a football institution takes time.
Hiddink also called for a stronger football-oriented structure at Hearts, urging the club to prioritise people with the necessary football knowledge and experience in key positions.
“Not too much politics in the club, but more people with football knowledge and know-how in every position. If they do that, they come top again,” he said.
He believes changes are necessary for the Phobians to reclaim their position among Ghana’s leading clubs, although he admits the responsibility for making those changes no longer rests with him.
“I think there should be changes, but it’s not up to me to do that,” Hiddink concluded.
Hearts of Oak has not won a major title in four years running. The Rainbow side have gone through a series of managerial changes but are yet to hit the top level required of them as one of West African household names.
