Former Ghana Premier League defensive midfielder William Bediako has joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid on loan, with the La Liga side holding an option to make the move permanent.
The 18-year-old defensive midfielder moved to Spain this summer, signing for lower-tier club Trival Vald before being sent on loan to Atletico Madrid.
According to Ghanasoccernet, former Berekum Chelsea DM Bediako is expected to feature for Atletico’s Under-19 team as he adjusts to his new surroundings and continues his development.
The move offers the young Ghanaian an opportunity to develop within the Spanish club’s system, with the focus on helping him adapt to a new football environment and improve his game.
Bediako arrives in Spain after gaining experience in Ghana’s top-flight competition with Berekum Chelsea, where he made 30 league appearances across two seasons.
His time in the Ghana Premier League provided him with an introduction to senior-level football before his move to Europe.
Berekum Chelsea confirmed the player’s transfer in a statement, expressing excitement over his move to the Spanish capital and wishing him well as he begins the next stage of his career.
The club’s statement read: ‘’We are excited to announce that our attacking midfielder, William Bediako, has signed for Atlético de Madrid.
‘‘Everyone at the club wishes William Bediako all the very best.’’ Although Bediako is primarily described as a defensive midfielder, Berekum Chelsea referred to him as an attacking midfielder in its announcement.
His immediate assignment with Atletico’s Under-19 side is expected to support his transition into the club’s football structure, according to the report.
The loan arrangement also includes an option for Atletico Madrid to sign him permanently, giving the Spanish club the opportunity to assess his progress before making a longer-term commitment.
For Bediako, the move represents a significant step in his young career, taking him from the Ghana Premier League into the development structure of one of Spain’s prominent clubs.
At 18, he will have the opportunity to gain experience in a different football environment while continuing his development with Atletico’s youth team.
His previous experience with Berekum Chelsea, including 30 league appearances over two seasons, provides the foundation for his next challenge in Spain.
The move also marks a new chapter for the midfielder following his summer transfer to Trival Vald, who have arranged the loan to Atletico Madrid.
With the loan deal in place, attention will turn to Bediako’s adaptation and progress at the Spanish club as he seeks to make the most of the opportunity.
