Sudan national team coach Kwasi Appiah is reportedly set to resign as the head coach of the Falcons of Jediane despite their double-header encounter against Senegal on 13th and 16th November 2026 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to ghanasportspage.com, Appiah has reportedly threatened to resign from his duty due to interference coming from the vice president Mr, Osama Atta Al-Mannan. In our in-depth findings, Atta has pushed Kwasi Appiah to include some players he does not know anything about. This situation has frustrated the Ghanaian tactician, who has reported the matter to the president of the Sudan National Football Association.
Meanwhile, coach Salah Al-Fanj quickly returned to the scene, benefiting from his association with the youth national team and its CECAFA Championship triumph. His name had previously been linked with administrative manager Abubakr Al-Mahi at the beginning of what appeared to be an initiative aimed at bringing Appiah’s tenure to an end.
Significantly, Al-Mahi and Al-Fanj are among the key figures Appiah has relied upon throughout his time with the national team. The Ghanaian coach reportedly requested their reinstatement on several occasions, most recently during his meeting with SFA President Dr. Moatasim Jaafar in Cape Verde.
According to information obtained by our sources, Kwesi Appiah has privately expressed to several close associates his deep dissatisfaction with the working environment within the Sudanese Football Association, particularly regarding his relationship with SFA Vice-President Osama Atta Al-Mannan.
Perhaps the decision to announce the squad exclusively through the Sudanese Football Association’s social media platforms, without holding a press conference for the head coach, raises even more questions.
According to our sources, Appiah has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with including certain players whose technical abilities he is not familiar with. Their call-ups appear to fall under the following approach:
Kwasi Appiah’s contract runs through 2029, covering both the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Appiah has been in charge of Sudan’s national team (the Falcons of Jediane or Nile Crocodiles) since September 2023. Over 35 matches with the team, he has recorded 11 wins, 10 draws, and 14 defeats, notably guiding Sudan to qualification for the 2025 AFCON and strong positioning in World Cup and AFCON qualifiers despite playing away from home due to security conditions
Sudan will travel to Senegal to face the Taranga Lions on 13th of November, with a return fixture scheduled for 16th of November 2026. Sudan is currently in 3rd position with 3 points in Group J.
