Following the cancellation of the Homowo Cup, Communication Director for Accra Great Olympics, Saint Osei has thrown a challenge to Hearts of Oak, saying they can still beat them at any time.
The maiden edition of the Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup scheduled for Sunday, August 20, was called off 48 hours to the game.
Plans were in place to have Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics were expected to face off with each other at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend as part of celebrations for the Homowo festival.
However, with 48 hours until the game, the organisers have confirmed the fixture has been called off after Olympics have requested to withdraw from the game.
Speaking to Accra-based Mothers FM, Saint Osei said: “Yes, the game has been cancelled. Man proposes and God disposes. It is not our wish for this to happen. It has been called off due to certain things. The leaders will meet again for a new date.
“But the main reason behind the cancellation can’t be disclosed and it is not for public consumption. It is between our leaders and the organisers. It is good for it to be cancelled 48 hours before the game but not on the final day.”
“Our withdrawal doesn’t mean we are afraid of Hearts. We can still beat them even if we play at Pobiman. We are not afraid of them because they are our old wives,” he stated.
