As we all know, in every occupation, there are what we call occupational hazards. But sometimes, it can get nasty. This is a situation in which a journalist Patrick Apreku has found himself.
According to reports gathered by this medium, he went to interview some people in Bawku some people in Bawku in February 2023 about the conflict between The Manprusis and The Kusasis. And filing a report about what he gathered from the grounds in Bawku, he stated that, the Kusasis are those to be blamed for re-igniting the conflict.
This according to our source infuriated some Kusasi Youth who are currently living in Kumasi, where Apreku who is also popular in Sports lives. This group of people according to our source went to his radio station Sikka FM under the disguise that, they needed him for a programme. They then managed to get directions from his workplace to his house, where he lives with his family.
When they went, they met his absence. It was his wife and children who were around.
After knowing from the wife that the husband has travelled to Accra, one of them said,”he is lucky.”.
“Like you would bury his dead body tonight.”
When the wife asked what the matter was, they disclosed to her that her husband had accused their tribe of bringing back the conflict in Bawku and they were unhappy about the husband’s reports as a news item.
They told the wife to warn her husband that they would come back again unannounced, and they knew that, definitely, they would get him one day. They then left to board a waiting taxi and left.
Apreku is said to be traumatized by this according to friends around him and took some time off the radio and his office premises, and at a point even left Kumasi to save his life.
This website initially spoke to Apreku and he agreed to grant an interview but efforts to trace him proved futile. It is believed Swag and GJA, the umbrella bodies of journalists have been called upon to speak out against such incidents that pull back freedom of speech and impede the work of journalists. It is believed that the police are aware of the incident as a family source hinted they will report to the appropriate authorities.
