A first half strike from Peter Amidu Acquah helped Asante Kotoko to return winning ways as they narrowly beat Bibiani Gold Stars on Friday evening at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The game started on a cagey note as both sides cancelled each other out, but the deadlock was broken by Peter Amidu Acquah before halftime.
The Youngster pounced on a loosed ball and connected expertly from close angle to put the Porcupine Warriors in the lead in the 46th minute.
In the second half, the Miners threatened the goal area of the Reds on countless occasion but goalkeeper Frederick Asare put in a strong arm to deny the visitors as Kotoko held on to record a win at home.
Before the game, Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum made three changes in his line-up after last weekend’s defeat to Heart of Lions.
Kotoko came out swinging with their usual high-energy press that caused some problems for Gold Stars early on before they registered a goal.
This win puts the Reds in second place with just three points behind Samartex, who sits first with 35 points from 18 games.
Gold Stars are 13th on the log with 21 points.
