Asante Kotoko will be jetting off to the United States later this year to face Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United after their impressive win in the inaugural Democracy Cup.
The Kumasi-based club secured the coveted trophy with a 2-1 victory over their arch-rivals, Hearts of Oak, at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Porcupines dominated the game from start to finish, with goals from Justice Blay and Peter Amidu Acquah proving too much for the Phobians to handle. Asamoah Boateng managed to get a consolation goal for Hearts of Oak, but it was too little, too late.
The game was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, and Asante Kotoko’s win was a fitting tribute to the occasion.
The team’s victory has earned them a trip to Washington, D.C., where they will take on DC United in an exciting encounter.
