Former Asante Kotoko star Francis Andy Kumi found himself at the center of a tense legal battle at the Ashaiman District Court in late 2025. The dispute involved his 10-year-old daughter and his ex-girlfriend, Sekina Hammond, who had questioned his paternity.
The case began on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, when the court ordered Sekina to bring the child for a DNA test before the next hearing. However, Sekina avoided this by sending the girl to her mother’s village, hoping to delay the test. Eventually, she brought the child in, and the DNA test was carried out.

Three hearings followed, with the final one held on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. The DNA results showed that Andy Kumi was not the biological father of the child, clearing his name.
The court condemned Sekina’s delay and actions unacceptable for damaging the player’s reputation in a viral social media video, resulting in a fine of 24,200 Ghana cedis.
This decision brought closure to a difficult chapter for Francis, who expressed relief that the truth was finally established. The case highlights the importance of truth and responsibility in sensitive family matters, reminding all involved of the consequences when the law is challenged.
Kumi and Sekina started dating in Senior High School and continued their relationship post-graduation, leaving the player heartbroken since Sekina was his first girlfriend.
The prolific striker previously played for Kotoko, Bechem United FC, and Kotoku Royals in the Ghana Premier League before joining Serbian club FK Radnički Niš.
Upon his return from Serbia, Kumi signed with GPL powerhouse Medeama Sporting ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Kumi’s outstanding performances in the domestic league led to a national team call-up to the Black Stars in 2021.
