Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed optimism about the potential return of Andre Ayew to the Black Stars squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
He stated that the experienced forward remains in contention as long as he is actively playing club football.
Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, the Minister noted that Ayew’s continued involvement at club level keeps him firmly in the picture for national team selection.
“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and is still playing actively, I won’t be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams said.
He, however, emphasized that selection decisions rest solely with the technical team of the national side.
“However, it is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he added.
Ayew, one of Ghana’s most experienced internationals, has been a key figure for the Black Stars over the years, and discussions about his potential inclusion continue as the team prepares for upcoming friendlies in March.
