Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed pride and emotional connection to his new role, describing the opportunity to lead Ghana as both “an honour and a privilege.”
In his first public remarks following his appointment, the experienced Portuguese tactician emphasized his commitment to the team and its ambitions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“To be part of this sports family is an honour and a privilege for me,” Queiroz said, acknowledging the significance of taking charge of one of Africa’s most storied national teams.
The 71-year-old also highlighted his deep-rooted ties to the continent, revealing a personal connection that could shape his approach with the team.
“I have very strong African roots. I was born and raised in Africa, Mozambique,” he noted, signaling a cultural familiarity that may help him quickly integrate into the Ghanaian football environment.
Queiroz further underlined the magnitude of the task ahead, pledging to make Ghana’s World Cup journey a memorable one.
“To lead this African country [Ghana] to the World Cup will be an unforgettable memory in my life,” he added.
His comments come amid growing optimism following his appointment, with government officials, including Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, already expressing confidence in his ability to deliver success.
