The Bereau of the FIFA Council have announced new dates for three major events of the world football governing body, which include the Women’s U-17 and U-20 World Cups.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted hosted by Costa Rica/Panama, was earlier scheduled for August/September 2020, but has now been moved to 20 January- 6 February 2021. The tournament will however, keep its original eligibility criteria; players born on or after 1 January 2000 and on or before 31 December 2004 will be qualified to represent their national teams at the tournament.
Secondly, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 which was originally scheduled for 2 and 21 November 2020, has also been pushed to 17 February – 7 March, 2021, maintaining the original eligibility criteria; i. e players born on or after 1 January 2003 and on or before 31 December 2005 qualify to represent their national teams.
Moreover, the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020 has also been rescheduled for 12 September – 3 October 2021. The Bereau of the FIFA Council has as well decided, that the 70th FIFA Congress originally scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, now be held as an online even on 18th September, 2020.
FIFA arrived at the above decisions after vigorous assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on world sporting events, and feels the above measures will help the world of sports and all stakeholders to stage a successful tournament with the safety of all participants assured.
