England will face Italy in the EURO 2020 final match after the Three Lions overcame Denmark 2-1, after extra time in the second semi-final match played on Wednesday night.

Denmark took the lead through a sumptuous Mikkel Damsgaard free-kick, but a Simone Kjaer own goal and a penalty in extra time from Harry Kane sealed the win.

It was a fast, frantic start from both teams in the opening minutes, with tackles flying in all over the place.

Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling were particularly sharp on the left flank, giving the Danes defenders all manner of problems.

After half-chances in the opening quarter, the first clear chance fell to Denmark after 25 minutes when Vestagaard dispossessed Harry Kane with a robust yet legal challenge on halfway, finding Damsgaard, who checked inside onto his right foot and curled an effort just past the angle of post and bar.

The first goal then arrived in the 30th minute and it was a real beauty.

Shaw was penalised for bringing down Andreas Christensen just outside the box, and Damsagaard stepped up to hit a cannon strike wtih his instep which sailed over the wall before squeezing just below the bar for and 1-0 lead.

Sterling then missed a clear chance to pull the Three Lions level in the 38th minute when Kane managed to break down hee right flank before drilling a teasing ball into the six-yard box but the Man City forward failed to find the net, with Kasper Schmeichel producing a magnificent save.

There’s nothing though the Danes could do as England pulled level with five minutes to go as Simon Kjaer put the ball into the back of the net.

The move was started by Harry Kane, who found Saka on the wing. The young Arsenal star managed to dart behind and drilled a ball across the face of the goal, which Kjaer collided with as he attempted to make a clearance.

Both side created numerous opportunities in the second period, with England testing the Danes first in the 55th minute when Harry Maguire got to the end of a free-kick ball and made a clean contact which was headed for the bottom corner, only for Scheimechel to pull an excellent one-hand save.

Denmark hit back almost immediately with a good attack as well, after Braithwaite lured Maguire to the ball before shifting it inside to Dolberg, whose shot on the swivel was scuffed and straight at Pickford.

England created two more chances in quick succession through Sterling and Phillips, but could not find the back of the net as the Danes stood strong.

Mauire went down in the 74th minute after a challenge from Norgaard, but the referee did not hear any of it, instead giving Denmark a free kick.

Despite both teams’ efforts, there was no separating them after 90 minutes, forcing the game to go into extra time.

England remained lively through the opening half of added time and got the chance to take the lead just before the break, albeit in a controversial manner.

Sterling found his way into the box, and his trickery saw him brought down inside the box with the slightest of touches, and Kane scored a rebound after Scheimechel had made a perfect save.
