Former Ghana skipper Stephen Appiah has paid a glowing tribute to his former international teammate Sulley Muntari on his transfer to the Ghana Premier League greats Accra Hearts of Oak.

Stephen Appiah played for Accra Hearts of Oak between 1995 and 1997, and capped 67 times with 15 goals for the Ghana senior national team the Black Stars. Appiah, considered a legend of Accra Hearts of Oak despite his short stint with the club, has welcomed the former Inter Milan and AC Milan star to the domestic league, describing Muntari’s move as a move to “the greatest club”.

The 37-year old midfielder completed a move to Accra Hearts of Oak after signing a season long deal with the capital based club. The announcement by Accra Hearts of Oak on the signing of the UEFA Champions League winner has gained global recognition with the international media carrying the news after the announcement on Monday. Several former players of Accra Hearts of Oak including the fans have reacted to the news on social media and several platforms, one of such is Stephen Appiah.

“If there is one thing that makes me happy about your latest movement…. Is the fact that your name will be written amongst the great players who wore the world most adored and envious Jersey…. Welcome to the greatest club my bro…. Phoooooobia”, Appiah wrote on Twitter.

Sulley Muntari is making a return to the Ghana Premier League where he begun his career with Accra based Liberty Professionals before moving to Europe where his glittering career caught global recognition after playing for the likes of Udinese, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Inter Milan, AC Milan among others.

He won the UEFA Champions League with Serie A giants Inter Milan during the 2009/10 season after beating Bundesliga giants Bayern Munchen 2-0 in the final Santiago Bernabéu Stadium under Jose Mourinho. He has featured for Ghana on three different editions of the FIFA World Cup finals.
