The chairman for the Ghana League Clubs Association, Kudjo Fianoo has explained why the association decided to choose the two GPL giants, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko for the upcoming President Cup scheduled for 4th March.

The President Cup is an annual ceremonial match organized by GHALCA to honour the president of the land.

Hearts and Kotoko will play for the second time after Sunday’s goaless stalemate before the return leg of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko won the last edition of the President in 2019 after claiming 2-1 victory over their sworn rivals.

Kudjo Fianoo revealed during an interview with Akoma FM that the game is purposely organized to raise funds for the association to execute programs and also to honour the president that’s why they decided to fix a game that can pull the crowd.

“We play these matches to raise funds for the Association to execute our programs and in honoring the President, you need a fixture that can pull the crowd.”

“Again, getting this thing together at this very short notice was not easy. And as we are all aware, we haven’t had this for the past three years now so the argument of why Hearts and Kotoko shouldn’t come in.

The President Cup is returning since 2019 after the Porcupines lifted the trophy in the capital city of the nation.
