Super Clash: Hearts of Oak’s Asante Kotoko tormentor, Patrick Razak teases the Porcupine Warriors ahead of Sunday clash
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It is that time of the season again when the two biggest football clubs in Ghana football, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko lock horns in the premier league, and Hearts of Oak’s trump card against the Porcupine Warriors, Patrick Razak has lightened up the atmosphere with teasing post on social media aimed at his favourite preys.

Razak has been a torn in the flesh of almost any defensive set up of Asante Kotoko since joining Accra Hearts of Oak, and has scored four (4) goals against the Porcupine Warriors in all competitions (competitive and ceremonial matches combined). Razak seldomly starts a game against Asante Kotoko, but whether he starts or comes off the bench, he has always been a devastating character for the record premier league winners.

The four occasions during which Razak has scored against Asante Kotoko include a premier league match at the Baba Yara sports stadium on July 24, 2016 when Hearts of Oak held Asante Kotoko to a 1-1 draw. Asante Kotoko had taken an early lead in the 17th minute through striker Kwame Boateng after Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Soulaima Abdulai of blessed memory, had punched away a strike from Dauda Mohammed which Kwame Boateng reacted quickly to finish.

In the second half of the said league match, Patrick Razak equalised for Accra Hearts of Oak in the 51st minute, assisted by Isaac Mensah in that match week 21 fixture. The game finished 1-1 under coaches Michael Osei and Sergio Traguil (of Portugal) for Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak respectively.

In the following year, 2017, Patrick Razak once again proved instrumental in the Ghana @60 Anniversary Cup competition which Hearts of Oak beat Asante Kotoko to lift the trophy. The first leg was played at the Accra sports stadium and Hearts of Oak triumphed with a 3-1 victory over Kotoko. Striker Kwame Kizito and captain Thomas Abbey scored twice for Hearts of Oak, and Patrick Razak pounced late to score the third goal to put the damage beyond repairs for Asante Kotoko. Defender Awal Mohammed headed home the consolation goal for Asante Kotoko. At the end of the game, Patrick Razak was adjudged the MOVP following an overwhelming performance.

Back to the premier league, Patrick Razak’s last visit to the Baba Yara sports stadium was in the 2018 league season, which led to yet another heart break for the Asante Kotoko fraternity, as he scored the only goal of the match to hand all three points to Accra Hearts of Oak.

The league match, which was played on the 29th of April, 2018, finished 0-1 for Hearts of Oak, thanks to a 67th minute goal by Patrick Razak, feeding on a brilliant pass from Winful Cobbinah which he put into goalkeeper Felix Annan’s net for his 4th goal of that season for the Phobians. The 2018 league competition was however truncated due to Tiger Eye PI Expose which exposed alleged corrupt practices in the game.

Razak is not done yet, as he continued his mission of tormenting Asante Kotoko, when Hearts of Oak hosted them at the Accra sports stadium on March 4, 2022 for the President’s Cup match as part of Ghana’s 65th Independence Day Anniversary.

Goal from Daniel Afriyie for Hearts of Oak was equalised by Asante Kotoko’s substitute Samuel Boateng to bring the scoreline to 1-1. They looked to be heading into penalty shootouts but that never happened as Patrick Razak, a substitute for Accra Hearts of Oak, fed on a pass from Obeng Jnr for a solo run to score the match winner at the 89 minute, specifically, with the clock reading at 88:49 seconds to restore Hearts of Oak’s lead to 2-1. Kotoko failed to find the equaliser, and Razak’s dramatic goal won the trophy for Hearts of Oak.

Come Sunday, Hearts of Oak will travel to Kumasi for the second leg of the premier league in a match week 24 fixture against Asante Kotoko the league leaders, and Razak has sent a signal to the Kumasi based club fan base ahead of the big game dubbed, ‘The Super Clash”.

“DO YOU REMEMBER THE LAST VISIT TO THE KUMASI BABA YARA SPORTS STADIUM?”, Razak wrote via his facebook account on Monday.
