Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his deepest delight after completing his transfer to Portuguese side Sporting Club on a long term contract that will keep him at the club till 2027.
The Portuguese giants Sporting Club on Wednesday officially announced the signing of the former Steadfast Football Club product on five-year season long deal, and has with a reported release clause of 60 million Euros, after which he was duly presented on Wednesday at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy, in Alcochete.
Speaking to the club website after his unveiling on Wednesday, the 18-year old Issahaku revealed his ambitions and his delight for joining the club.
“I’m very happy to be here, it’s fantastic. They welcomed me very well”, he told Sporting and Sporting TV.
He also took time to explain to the fans who may not be familiar with his style of play how plays the the role he enjoys on the field of play.
“I play as a winger as well as an attacking midfielder. I really like shooting, especially from afar”, he described.
While thanking everyone at the club for assisting him acquaint himself with the culture and practices of the club, Issahaku also admitted clear disparities between his traditional style of play and the Sporting CP way of the game. To him, the new system will help him to adapt and to acquire new things that will go long way to help his development as a player.
“There are many differences between the football I was playing and Sporting CP. It will make me grow more”, he admitted.
Issahaku was adjudged the best African U20 player of the African Youth Championship tournament last year after helping Ghana the ultimate in Mauritania last year. His two important goals for Ghana at the group stage of the tournament and his performance in all the other matches Ghana played played a pivotal role in helping the Black Satellites to win the title, which was their fourth in history.
He was named in the Ghana final squad that participated in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, and was also a key member of the Ghana squad that defeated Nigeria on away goal rule to secure the first of Africa’s share of five tickets to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finals.
