Ashantigold super star striker Shafiu Mumuni has stated that he was shocked to have woken up to see his name included in Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah’s 23-man squad called up for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against South African and Sao Tome and Principe.
The clinical finisher emerged the only outfield locally based player included in the Black Stars squad for the AFCON qualifiers and he is highly delighted over the opportunity given him and expressed his shock over his call up as his long awaited dream became a reality on Thursday.
“I saw my name in the [Black Stars] squad and when I saw it I was very shocked”, Shafiu revealed, speaking to Fox FM. “I really thank God for listening to my cry that I have been able to earn a call up to the senior national team”, he said.
According to Shafiu, his call up is down to his hardworking character and stunning performances in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stages for his club and his recent display in the 2019 WAFU tournament in Senegal where his hat-trick against Ivory Coast in the semi final powered Ghana to the final to win silver.
|”Its all due to hard work and determination and I believe that after the hard work it is good news that follows. I could see that the performance I put up the WAFU tournament and the CAF Confederation and my serious training is what helped me to get this opportunity to be called up”, Shafiu acknowledged.
