The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghana’s ambitious female referee Juliet Appiah to officiate the Olympic qualifier between Equatorial Guinea and DR Congo on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

The 2020 CAF Women Olympic qualifying matches come off this week starting from Wednesday, August 28 through to the weekend, and the Ghanaian industrious police officer has been appointed to handle the return leg between Equatorial Guinea and DR Congo which is slated for Sunday, September 1, 2019 in Malabo.

Ahead of the big showdown in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, the first leg comes of on Wednesday (tomorrow) in Kinshasha, DR Congo, where the Congolese female side hosts their Equatorial Guinea counterparts.

For the records, officer Juliet became the first ever police officer, man or woman, to be awarded a FIFA refereeing badge when she received her FIFA refereeing licence in February 2018.

Referee Juliet Appiah

Appiah made her premiership refereeing debut in the Ghana premier league for the 2017/2018 season, where she handled her maiden league match between Dreams FC and Inter Allies on May 2, 2018 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. She had officiated several matches in the second tier of the Ghana Football League and the MTN FA Cup, where she won a prestigious award as the “Most Promising Referee” at the 2015 MTN FA Cup awards.

She recently officiated international friendly match between Asante Kotoko and Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso in Kumasi, where the Porcupines won by 2-1 at the Baba Yara sports stadium.

Juliet will be assistant on the lines by her compatriots Alice Chakule from Kumasi and Doris Essuman from the central region on lines one and two respectively. Joyce Ohenewaa from Nkawkaw completes the list as the fourth official for the crunch encounter.

The four female referees led the centre referee Juliet, will depart Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon via airplane to Accra. They will then leave Accra on Thursday by 12:00 noon through the Kotoka International Airport via Ethiopian airline to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

They will pass the night in Addis Ababa on Wednesday before enplaning to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.

The match has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, 1st September, 2019.
