Legon Cities coach Bashir Kweku Hayford has revealed violence and threat of beating up referee Yao Bless was the reason Berekum Chelsea defeated Legon Cities 2-1 in the GPL match at Dormaa.
Angry and breathing profusely, the veteran coach was very displeased with the conduct of fans at the Dormaa Nana Agyemang Badu Park, claiming they threatened the match officials they will assault them if Chelsea do not win the match.
“(Fans were allowed into the stadium and I saw them and everything) . They threatened the referees that they will do to them what happened to their colleagues at Waminafo”. He revealed.
Bash said at recess and during the match, Chelsea assigns were clearly heard threatening the officials and warning them of mayhem should Chelsea fail to win the match. He recounted how one of them chased the referee with the intention of assaulting him.
According to Bash, the fear of being beaten up simply helped the game not to be fair as most decisions went against his side.
The latest incident is expected to make the Ghana Football Association uncomfortable as series of violent scenes been rocking league matches of late, with the latest and most serious being the Waminafo Royals match against Tano Bofoakwa where referees were physically assaulted.
