After spending his entire career with the Culés, Lionel Messi asked to leave Barca. But the Blaugranas don’t intend to let this happen.
The news has changed the world of football. At 33 years old and after having spent his entire career at FC Barcelona, lionel Messi decided to park up .While some believe that the Argentinian is taking down his last card to remove Josep Maria Bartomeu, the president with whom he is cold, many believe that the choice of La Pulga is irrevocable. A monument to the Catalan club, Messi is turning a huge chapter in his career and the history of Spanish football.
It’s enough to make all Barcelona socios tremble, but also the leaders of a La Liga already orphaned by Cristiano Ronaldo since 2018. And if the principal interested is not yet out of silence, his club is active behind the scenes. For it is only Messi who wants to put an end to his love affair with the Blaugranas. As revealed by El Pais a few months ago, the Argentinian can, since this year, unilaterally terminate his contract at the end of each season (his lease runs until 2021).
Blaugranas challenge Messi’s claim
And that’s where it’s going to be all about. Sport reports that the Catalan management has confirmed that they have received a letter from number 10 announcing its desire to leave. Except that the correct answer was not long in coming. If Messi wants to leave, he will have to pay the release clause set at 700 million euros. Because, if the player has the right to break his lease, he had to make his request at the end of May. The pro-Barça daily therefore adds that Bartomeu’s team immediately put its legal department into action, believing that the player’s presence for the 2020/2021 season was locked down from 10 June.
For his part, Messi believes that the exceptional context associated with the coronavirus pandemic has pushed back the end of the season in August. So for him, that means extending the deadline. Unsurprisingly, a legal war between the two sides is to be expected if Bartomeu does not resign in the meantime and Messi remains camped on his positions.
