Former Asante Kotoko striker Ransford Osei has announced his retirement from professional football, aged 30. Osei most recently plied his trade for Lithuanian club FK Palanga.
Osei revealed this in an interview with Humble Ike on Youtube from his base in Germany, which was monitored by myfabulousonline and hinted ghanasportspage.com.
Ransford Osei penned a two-year deal with Kotoko in his bid to recapture his good old form, an ambition that fueled his move to Kotoko.
Osei, who finished among the highest scoring strikers at the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup and the graduates U20 tournament two years later in Egypt, did not make any significant impact for Kotoko in his stint with the club and saw his contract terminated after just a season in Kumasi before joining South African side Polokwane City.
In spite of his less-than-successful spell with Kotoko, nobody can deny that Osei was a clinical striker during his heyday. He was also part of the golden generation of Ghanaian football which dominated the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009.
Ransford Osei went on to play just two games for the Black Stars. A Striker described by FIFA.com as “an opportunistic goal machine” with superb pace and movement, Osei was recognized by World Soccer Magazine as one of the 50 Most Exciting Teenagers on the Planet in their November 2007 Issue.
Osei featured for Kessben FC, Maccabi Haifa, Berekum Chelsea (loan), FC Twente, Granada B, Bloemfontein Celtic among others.
