Ghana giants, Accra Hearts of Oak have been advised to cut down the player attrition rate at the club if they are to end their trophy drought.
Former player, Mahadi Abubakar believes Hearts of Oak are struggling to win trophies because they lack consistency due to their rampant release of players.
The 20-time Ghana Premier League winners have not won any major trophy since lifting the country’s top-flight championship in 2009, going 11 seasons without any major title.
“Hearts of Oak should try and keep players for at least three seasons to be able to get a strong and formidable team which can win trophies”, the former Hearts of Oak forward tells ghanasportspage.com.
“Hearts lose too many players every season. This does not bring consistency which is a key attribute for any good side.”
“I will use Al Ahly club here in Egypt as an example. Whether they win the championship or not, they do not release up to 20 percent of their players at the end of the season.”
“It is the other way round at Hearts where 80 percent of players leave the club after every season.”
The ‘never say die’ boys are currently 3rd on the GPL log with 27 points after 17 matches and are hoping to break the trophy drought this season.
