Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak Alhaji Akambi has debunked reports circulating that he has resigned from his position as a Board Member of the club, but has threatened to do so if his contributions to the club is regarded as a non-essential one.
Akambi, member of the Hearts of Oak Pobiman Academy project, has served the club for several years in diverse ways, but his quota of contribution to the club doesn’t seem to please some of the fans of the club, who have been calling for him to resign with immediate effect.
Lots of Accra Hearts of Oak fans have taken to social media to call for the sacking of the astute football administrator, calling him names and others describing his ideologies as “primitive, archaic” , among others. These developments have ensued following the resignation of head coach Kostadin Papic on February 16 this year, three months after taking charge at the club as head coach. Most of the fans believe that the Board of the club forced the coach out after some series of unfavourable results, and evaded the club’s secretariat in protest to demand the resignation of some board members, notably, Alhaji Akambi.
The situation left Akambi frustrated, and he felt disrespected as he stated in a radio interview that he will be tendering his resination letter at the next Board meeting
In an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com, Akambi explained that he has not resigned but will intends to tender in his resignation letter at the next board meeting and if the Board agrees with the fans that his contributions to the club and the Board is of not significance and accepts his letter, then he leaves. He expressed concerns over misrepresentation of his words in the media.
“I don’t know how some of your media colleagues misinform people”, Akambi complained, speaking to ghanasportspage.com.
“When I say I will want to or I want to tender my resignation letter at the next Board meeting, have I tendered it? I’m just making a prior notice to the public, if they thing I’m the cause of it, maybe at that meeting that day I will tell them my reasons, I will put it on paper. If my contribution to the Board is not important, they will tell me. So if I said I will tender my resignation, it’s all over…they’ve just captured it; Alhaji Akambi has resigned from the Board of Hearts of Oak, I’m surprised why”, he wondered.
According to him, he just wants to notify some of the fans of his intentions since most of them are trading insults at him.
“The whole thing is nothing, I just want to notify some of the supporters the way they are misbehaving, insults here and there. Even though Hearts of Oak was there before I came, I have what I’m doing, so if some of them think that my contribution towards the course is not pleasing them, I will tender it. I said at the next Board meeting, we shall see, I will tender it. It is a different thing tendering in your resignation letter and the next different thing too is the Board accepting it”, he noted.
Asked when the next Board meeting of Accra Hearts of Oak has been scheduled for, he said “I can’t tell”.
