Berekum CHelsea Football Club have distanced themselves from the spiteful comments of club CEO, Nana Oduro Sarfo made while addressing in public, the poor state of the club’s home ground pitch, the Golden City Park.
Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the CEO of Berekum Chelsea has come under stern criticisms for his comments in a live interview with Accra based Angel FM on Monday.
The Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea’s home ground is currently in a very bad state; the grass has turned to brown and the pitch appears hard. This produced bad pictures on TV during the live coverage of the club’s home game against Asante Kotoko last Sunday, and Oduro Sarfo was made to answer questions on the said matter.
During the said interview, published by ghanaweb.com, the Berekum Chelsea CEO is quoted as saying:
“The footballers who played on the pitch are they not the same payers who play on ‘sakora’ [grassless and hard] pitches. Are they not playing on Monday special ‘sakora’ pitches?,” he experienced football administration replied.
”I am an Ex-Co member and so what? You can say whatever you want to say, I don’t care. I didn’t beg you to call me. I am watching a Nigerian movie now, that’s precious to me.
”I have finished playing the game, if you have issues go and collect the points.
”Nobody has tasked you to enquire why we played football on that pitch. If pictures are going around, what hasn’t happened before.
”Is football dead? Why don’t you face the reality. I have finished playing the game, go and collect the points.
”I did not take anybody’s money before playing the game. I invested in my own game. That’s it. Forget it
”We have played the game on the pitch, if you’re unhappy, we don’t care. We shall continue to play on the pitch.”
The club has since released a statement to distance themselves from the comments made by their CEO, while assuring the general public of steps being taken to maintain the pitch up to the required standard.
“Berekum Chelsea Football Club distances itself from the public comments of club CEO, Oduro Sarfo during a radio interview on Accra-based Angel FM on Monday, November 23, 2020. We wish to state that those comments were largely his and do not in any way, represent that of the club”, the statement read.
