Asante Kotoko SC have opened discussions with defender Ismail Abdul Ganiyu about a new contract, Eugene Adu-Poku (Striker) of Oyerepa FM sports has confirmed.
The 25-year-old defender signed a three-year deal back in October 2018 when he joined from Karela United and is left with five months on his current contract. And as the story so often goes, it’s about that time for both sides to hammer out a new deal.
Asante Kotoko have been impressed with the 2016 Premier League winner with Wa All-Stars‘ performances since returning from his injury in December 2019 and want to tie him down until at least 2023.
The seasoned journalist, Adu Poku further revealed that the only thing delaying the new deal is the the buy-out clause the Porcupines want to insert in his contract.
The clause when agreed will give Kotoko some further breathing room as they consider the defender’s long-term future, with his original deal having been due to expire in next few months.
Aside from that, Kotoko and Ganiyu have agreed personal terms with the wages for the proposed deal not known yet.
The center-back who is touted as one of the highly-rated guardsman in the local scene managed to score four goals in 33 matches in the just ended Ghana Premier League season.
Abdul Ganiyu is currently in Black Stars B camp preparing for their next assignments.
