Amidst serious concerns of covid-19 positive cases in the camps of some national teams before and just after the kick off of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Ghana is free of any positive case ahead of their tournament opener against Morocco on Monday – head coach Milovan Rajevac says.
Countries like Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Malawi, Tunisia and few more recorded positive cases of covid-19 in camp at the eve of their travels to Cameroon, with some countries getting affected even after arrival in Cameroon. The tournament kicked off successfully on Sunday with host nation Cameroon coming from behind to beat Burkina Faso by 2-1 in the tournament opener, followed by a marginal 1-0 victory for Cape Verde over 10-man Ethiopia in the second game of the day.
Speaking to the press ahead of Ghana’s Group C opener against ‘The Atlas Lions’ of Morocco on Monday, coach Milovan Rajevac acknowledged the precariousness of covid-19 to people across the globe, but gave Ghanaians a sigh of relief, saying the Black Stars have not recorded any positive case of covid-19 in camp ahead of the Morocco encounter.
“Covid is a serious issue these days, and I’ve seen that some of the teams have problems and this can affect the teams very much in this competition. For us [Ghana] we did our official test yesterday [Saturday] and everybody is okay so we don’t have any problems and we hope it will stay that way”, Milovan hoped.
Ghana will play against Morocco on Monday evening at 4:00pm Ghana time in Group C opener.
