Ghana Premier League (GPL) giants Asante Kotoko made it four wins on the bounce with an impressive 3-1 victory over Ashantigold Sporting Club on Sunday afternoon in their GPL week 12 encounter in the ongoing 2021/2022 league season.
The Porcupine Warriors had brushed Legon Cities aside with 2-1 scoreline, compounded WAFA’s situation with a narrow 1-0 win and traveled to Dormaa Ahenkro where they made history, whipping Aduana Stars by emphatic 2-0 triumph for the first time since the ‘Ogya’ lads made their debut to the Ghanaian topflight in 2009.
Despite missing key players like Richmond Lamptey (suspension) and Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama (fitness issues), coach Ogun’s side proved too tough to handle for Ashantigold SC on Sunday as Cameroonian striker Frank Mbella Etouga bagged a hatrick for the Porcupines.
However, coach Prosper Narteh believes the team needs to guard against complacency to be able to maintain the momentum going forward.
“If you are playing a game without the likes Lamptey and Gama and you still able to find your rhythm, circulate the balls, it tells you that the team is becoming better. We only have to guard against complacency, make sure that we keep working hard and doing the right things at training and transferring them into the game. Once we are able to do that, we are good to go”, Ogun told reporters after the game.
After match day 12 of the ongoing league season, Asante Kotoko are still sitting at teh summit of the league table with 26 points out of 11 games, followed closely by Aduana Stars who are trailing by 3 points.
