Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus’ expectant arrival at the camp of the Black Stars in Cameroon for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations campaign may or may not happen, deducing from injury updates on him given by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurk Edwin Simeon Okraku.
The Black Stars kicked off their cup of nations campaign in Cameroon in a 1-0 defeat to Morocco in the Group C opener, and Ghanaians have still been waiting to hear the news of Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus’ arrival at the camp of the stars, but to no avail. The 21-year old top talent was named by coach Milovan Rajevac in Ghana’s 28-man squad for the tournament, despite the fact that Kudus was still being treated from an injury he sustained whiles on national duty with Ghana.
Ahead of Ghana’s second group stage game against Gabon on Friday, the expectations from the young midfielder have been on the lips of many Ghanaians and stakeholders of the game. Many believe the coach was wrong for naming him in his squad. Mohammed Kudus is still with his club Ajax, where he is undergoing treatment. Many expect him to be in camp and probably start for Ghana in the game against Gabon, but that looks quiet impossible judging from the updates given by the GFA president.
“I think that Kudus is recovering. He had a bad knock on national duty and you would realise that he came out of the game against South Africa (in the World Cup qualifier on November 14, 2021) around the 12th minute. Ever since the medical team in the Netherlands have been working closely with our medical team and we are closely monitoring. When it is that he is ready, he’ll show up”, Kurt told the Ghanaian press at the tournament in Cameroon.
Kurt’s explanation gives a clear either or situation, which means that on the other side of the coin, Kudus may not feature for Ghana at all in the tournament if he does not get ready health wise.
