Contrary to media reports gone rife over the weeks on a transfer clash between premier league rivals Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, the former has come out to pour cold water on the growing rumors to set the records straight, denying any interest of signing a player being linked with a move to Accra Hearts of Oak.
Reports say Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have clashed in the ongoing transfer market as the two ever rivals are in hot chase for the captain of premier league side WAFA, Konadu Yiadom. Whereas the Porcupine Warriors are said to have reportedly promised the 21-year old centre back a house, much playing time and opportunity to move abroad should he agree to sign for them ahead of Accra Hearts of Oak.
Fans of the two clubs have been taking a swipe at one another on social media over the bragging right as they seek superiority between their darling clubs over each other. It is believed that Konadu Yiadom’s move is tilted towards Hearts of Oak more than coach Ogun’s Asante Kotoko, and sections of the Phobian fans have already began to jubilate as they wait patiently for official announcement by the clubs -WAFA and Hearts of Oak.
In a sharp contrast to the developments, Communications & Brands Manager of Asante Kotoko, David Obeng Nyarko has taken to social media to deny any move by the club to sign a defender, and that the club is satisfied with its current defenders. The statement completely rules out any interest of Asatne Kotoko in chasing the signature of the WAFA captain.
“Kindly note !! Asante Kotoko is not in the market to sign a defender. We are very satisfied with the current squad. Thank You”, he stated via a tweet.
According to David, linking the player, Konadu Yiadom to Asante Kotoko is just a marketing strategy used by player-managers and clubs to raise the price value of their players in the transfer market. He called on fans and followers of the club to stay calm and focused, and not to get involved in any arguments regarding the signing of a defender.
“From experience, a reliable strategy used by several player-managers and club officials to hype their players and raise their value is to tag them as transfer targets of Asante Kotoko. Let’s stay focus”, David maintained.
Asante Kotoko announced a squad list of 31 players for the 2021/2022 football season before the commencement of the season, and the squad comprise of 10 defenders. Find below the squad list of Asante Kotoko for the ongoing season:
