As one of the biggest football clubs in the country, Asante Kotoko have a spoilt for choice in terms of quality of players who have left indelible marks in the history books of the club, regarding who earns a players in the club’s all-time best eleven.
Asante Kotoko have produced several legends of the game from generation to generation, taking into the 20th Century during which the club joined the list of clubs on the continent to have won the award for Africa’s Club of the 20th Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
The 21st Century, which begun from the year 2000, has also produced a number of talents from which a great XI could as well be generated, and Shilla Illiasu, who played for the Porcupine Warriors within the 21st Century (2005-2006) has named what he believes is the club’s best XI between the year 2000 and 2022.
In an interview with ghanasportspage.com, the former Ghana international was asked to name his best Asante XI for the 21st Century, and he has done so with himself and his brother, Shilla Alhassan both featuring in there. In his line up in a 3-5-2 formation, goalkeeper Osei Boateng starts in post, with Aziz Ansah, Godfred Yeboah of blessed memory along with Issah Ahmed featuring as the three backs.
Influential Stephen Oduro takes the number central midfield position as Nana Arhin Duah and Shilla Alhassan lead the attack.
