Manchester United are actively looking for a new goalkeeper with the possibility of David de Gea leaving the club. The Spaniard’s contract expired at the end of June after the club decided against offering him a new deal.

While negotiations with Inter Milan for Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana continue, United have shown interest in Zion Suzuki, a 20-year-old Japanese talent currently playing for Urawa Reds.

Suzuki has caught the attention of United scouts and is regarded as a promising prospect for a move to Old Trafford this summer.

  1. Suzuki, who was born in the United States, has dual Ghanaian and Japanese nationality because his father is Ghanaian and his mother is Japanese.
  2. Suzuki has chosen to pledge his international future to Japan despite being eligible to represent three countries including Ghana. He moved to Japan when he was a child and has embraced his Japanese heritage, representing the country at various youth levels and making his senior debut against Hong Kong in 2022, but was not included in the World Cup squad for the Qatar tournament.
  3. Suzuki began his football career with the Urawa Reds, a local club in Japan. He rose through their youth academy ranks, demonstrating his talent and potential as a custodian.
  4. Suzuki made history when he signed his first professional contract with the Urawa Reds at the age of 16, becoming the youngest player to do so. This achievement demonstrates the club’s faith in his abilities and his bright future.
  5. Suzuki, despite being a young prospect, has already demonstrated his abilities and potential. In May 2021, he made his J1 League debut, Japan’s top professional football league, and quickly drew attention by keeping clean sheets in his first three appearances.
