Accra Hearts of Oak Board Member, Alhaji Akambi is unhappy with GHALCA’s decision to use Asante Kotoko and Ivorian giants, ASEC Mimosas in the upcoming President’s Cup.
The GHALCA President’s Cup, which is an annual football event to honour the sitting President of Ghana will not be a battle between defending champions, Hearts of Oak and their sworn rivals in this year’s edition.
The big clash takes a new spin as Ghana football giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko take on Ivorian powerhouse ASEC Mimosa at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
This decision has stirred a varieties of criticisms and frustrations among some Phobia fans.
Talking to Richmond K. Entsie (GFA) on Mothers 102.7FM, Alhaji Akambi expressed disappointment and threatened to block the Rainbows from participating in the next editions.
“How can you change the President’s Cup for Kotoko to play ASEC whiles we are the defending champions. Is it normal? GHALCA are the organizers and it is left to them to run it how they want it. We have nothing to do. If they have chosen Kotoko and ASEC then they should go and play.
Asked if the Rainbows are going to accept a call from the GHALCA to compete in the competition again, Akambi said: “To be honest with you, If I alone have the audacity, trust me we will not play again. We will not play if I have the audacity,” he ended.
