Hearts of Oak will begin their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign this Sunday against newly-promoted Basake Holy Stars without defender David Oppong Afrane, who is sidelined due to injury.
The 21-year-old joined the Phobians in September 2023 but struggled with injuries throughout the previous season, limiting his playing time.
Despite a promising pre-season, including a trip to Togo and appearances in most friendly matches, Afrane picked up another injury during the team’s midweek warm-up match against Dreams FC.
It has been confirmed that the Black Meteors defender will not be available for selection in the season opener.
However, with options like Michael Awuah Mensah, Konadu Yiadom, and Kelvin Osei Asibey at his disposal, coach Aboubakar Ouattara will have plenty of alternatives to cover Afrane’s absence.
The match against Basake Holy Stars is scheduled for 15:00 GMT at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
