The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt E.S Okraku has expressed concerns over Black Stars team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 23rd edition of the global showpiece is slated for this summer with 48 country’s showing up. This appearance marks Ghana’s fifth edition with huge expectations on the team, following their poor campaign in the last edition.
With less than 38-days to the Mundial, the Black Stars has recorded series of injuries hence putting the team in depleted state. Currently, Daniel Kofi-Kyereh is battling to shake off a three year injury for the tournament whiles players like Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu are both ruled out with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.
The aforementioned has left Kurt Okraku worried especially with ambition of qualifying from the group phase at the Mundial.
“I know we have some challenges with injuries to key [Black Stars] players. When I look at the list, it’s quite worrying.”
“When I look at the list, it is quite worrying. However, I derive my positivity from the indomitable spirit of the Ghanaian, which always emerges when the chips are down”.
Kurt however added that, he derives believe from the unity of purpose demonstrated by the country following the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as Otto Addo’s replacement.
“I believe that the unity of purpose demonstrated by the nation following Coach Carlos Queiroz’s arrival will arouse extra energy in everyone—from the players to the ’12th man.’ Together, we will find the right level of energy to be competitive,” he said.
The West African country is housed in Group L, with European powerhouse England, Croatia and Panama.
