Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has solicited support for Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz as the team intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Ghana, heading into their fifth appearance at the Mundial will be managed by Carlos Queiroz who was appointed to replace Otto Addo in April.
Queiroz, 73, has previously managed Egypt, Iran and South Africa, and appointed on a four-month deal. Addo’s exit came after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats against Austria and Germany in the international friendlies in March.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Gyan— the veteran who made three world Cup appearance thus 2006, 2010 and 2014 believe Queiroz’s pedigree should earn him trust and patience from stakeholders.
A such wants all to rally behind him with support.
“Bringing in a new coach, we shouldn’t look down on the coach because he is one of the best coaches when we talk about CVs and everything,” he said.
The four-time African champions, will compete in Group L at the tournament alongside Panama, England and Croatia. Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ghana as part of their preparation face Mexico on May 22 and conclude their preparatory fixtures against Wales on June 2 ahead of the global showpiece.
