Leicester City FC and Black Stars winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed confidence in his teammates with huge hope, ahead of Ghana’s world cup opener on Wednesday.
The forward believe Ghana can progress beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ongoing in USA, Canada and Mexico.
The four-time AFCON winners have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia at the tournament and will kickoff their campaign with Panama on June 17.
Ghana have struggled in their last two world cup tournament not progressing beyond the group stage, with exits recorded in both 2014 and 2022.
However, Fatawu remains optimistic about the squad’s chances and says the team is building strong momentum in training and would definitely come to life at the global showpiece.
“Looking at the team, I have so much confidence in the guys,” he told Ghana FA Media.
“Everyone is ready, and the training we’re doing is helping. I think it’s going to make us fitter, improve us, and help the team move forward,” he added.
The West African country, currently managed by Portuguese trainer Carlos Queiroz will be aiming to avoid a third consecutive group-stage exit and reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010 at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
