Black Stars deputy captain Thomas Partey has lost his appeal against Canada’s decision to deny him a visa following a hearing in Ottawa.
The ruling means the Black Stars will be without one of their most experienced players for the tournament in Canada unless there is a further legal or administrative intervention.
Partey’s case had been the subject of intense attention in recent days, with Ghanaian authorities pursuing diplomatic and legal channels in an effort to overturn the initial refusal. A final hearing was held in Ottawa following an appeal lodged on the player’s behalf.
The decision represents a major setback for head coach Carlos Queiroz and the Black Stars as they prepare for their opening World Cup match against Panama.
Partey has been a key figure for Ghana over the years, providing leadership, experience and stability in midfield. His absence is expected to force Queiroz into a significant tactical reshuffle ahead of the tournament.
The Ghana Football Association and the Government of Ghana are yet to issue an official response to the outcome of the appeal.
In accordance, Partey will miss Ghana’s opening game against Panama on Wednesday, June 17.
