Former Italy international Mario Balotelli has rallied his support for Ghana following their qualification to the round of 32, of the FIFA World Cup.
Ghana advanced from the group phase, after amassing four points.
They were placed in Group L, with England, Croatia and Panama recording a win and a draw to survive the test. The four-time African champions now face off Colombia and will be expecting to come good or exit the Mundial.
Even ahead of the encounter, Black Stars numbers in terms of support has increased following the admiration of former Liverpool FC and Manchester City striker Mario Bawuah Balotelli. The Italian with Ghanaian descent acknowledged that Ghana has quality in their fold like Antoine Semenyo, playing well.
Revealing that, since Italy could not participate in the global showpiece this time, he’s support goes to Ghana since he’s a Ghanaian.
“I love the players. Semenyo, I love the way he plays. I think 2010 was the best team of Ghana,” the former Inter Milan, AC Milan and Manchester City striker said.
“There is no Italy in the World Cup, so I support Ghana. I am from Ghana, and I’m proud,” he added.
Semenyo who’s football has attracted Mario, has featured in all three group games for Ghana, clinching one Man of The Match award. He’s exhibited high level of football and professionalism at the global showpiece. His pace, physical presence and direct attacking play have made him a constant threat to opposition defences, earning him widespread recognition.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s game against Colombia in the Round of 32 is slated for Saturday at the Kansas City Stadium.
