Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are expected to face a challenging start to the 2026/27 season, as both teams will likely need to find alternative venues outside their traditional home grounds, Accra Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Stadium. Both stadiums are currently undergoing significant renovations and repairs.
According to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director for the National Sports Authority, the Accra Sports Stadium will have to undergo renovations in preparation for the upcoming U20 AFCON, which will be hosted in Ghana. This development means that the stadium will not be available for the keenly followed fixtures of Hearts of Oak and other local teams.
On the other hand, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is also in poor state. Pictures on social media has recently revealed that new grass is being planted, which further delays its readiness for the new season.
With both iconic stadiums unavailable, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will need to seek suitable alternative venues to kick off their season, creating uncertainty for fans and players alike. The upcoming weeks will be crucial as both clubs work to secure new home grounds.
The new Ghana Premier League season will kick off over the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.
